Preliminary Topic Briefs on Tahoe Basin Recreation

Tahoe Basin agencies aim to provide high-quality outdoor recreation experiences, while preserving and restoring the outstanding natural and cultural resources of the Lake Tahoe Basin. To that end, a primary objective is to establish Basin-wide recreation indicators, thresholds, and a monitoring framework related to user experience and the environmental effects of recreation and to acquire consistent and quality recreation data.  This initial task of the Tahoe Science Advisory Council will contribute directly to the compilation of background information and materials to support a workshop planned for May 2018 to identify stakeholder values, current conditions, and priority issues related to recreational experiences. In advance of the stakeholder workshop, the science advisory council will prepare a set of preliminary topic briefs to ensure a common basis of understanding for use at the workshop. These topic briefs will be organized around resource areas and will address the potential effects of different types of recreation activities on each resource area.
